New class beginning tonight

Tonight (4/16) Judy and I will start a new twelve-week class at Unity of Clearwater — here’s the blurb from their website: “Unity of Clearwater’s Manifestation Group meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:30; join Judy and Dieter for a look at positive application of Truth principles in everyday situations.”

The class will focus on finding ways to grow through our challenges, to learn new lessons, and to make a difference in the world. I’m really excited about the class, and give thanks for this opportunity.

Perfect Day

What does a perfect day look like for you? For a lot of people, this is a tougher question than it might seem. I think so many folks are so out of touch with what they want that they really don’t know how to ask a question like that. Maybe that’s part of the reason folks get into so much trouble when they win the lottery. If you don’t know what you really want, what you do with freedom can end up being very educational.

Put another way, you can’t really get something until you know how to ask for it. So how in the world can you expect to find an ideal life if you can’t even wrap your head around a decent 24 hours?

Let’s get ready for greatness here. If I told you that tomorrow morning you’d wake up with no obligations or restrictions of any kind, that your every wish would instantly and effortlessly be granted, how would the day go?

After you’re done queuing up your favorite episode of Cribs, let me add a Groundhog Day element. Is is the kind of thing you could see yourself doing every day? We are looking for a new way of life rather than a vacation, after all. If you handed me a wad of money and told me all my responsibilities would be taken care of for the day, I’d probably head for Disney World. But one can only be reminded that the world is, in fact, a small one so many times.

For one thing, at some point I’d get tired of consuming and start wanting to make something. Some of the best experiences of my life have been the ones that fed me and inspired me to go and do, and the truly great ones happened when I was completely focused on doing and being. Later on I inevitably find that I was provided for and taken care of in wonderful and surprising ways without ever making supply the object or even a concern of my work. I got out of the way.

What you’d do on a dream vacation is fun to think about, but it’s not especially sustainable or helpful. What does a perfect REAL day look like, without artificial obligations or constraints? If we think about prosperity in terms of production rather than consumption, we can start to envision progress beyond the boundaries of our current expectations.

The beginning of heroism is in the recognition that the way things appear to be isn’t necessarily the way that they ought to be. There’s a difference between facts and Truth. The fact about your current experience may be that you don’t feel as happy, healthy, prosperous, or loved as you’d like to, but the Truth about you is more than that. Honestly, the fact that you yearn for more speaks to the Truth of your nature. The trick is to learn how to bring out what’s real.

We absolutely build our capacity to receive, to love and serve, to consciously participate in the flow. So can you see it? Can you imagine what you’d do with a constraint-free world, life, or day? Let’s get good at this. If we as a people, a planet, a life are going to get anywhere, we need dreamers and visionaries.

So get your list together. Rehash it every day. Every day get better at seeing it. Edit. Add. Practice.

Now. I’d bet at least one of those things you’d do doesn’t actually require a government mandate or a bucket of cash. That’s the one you need to do today. The world is waiting.

Quit it

If love is the productive power, then living with less than that is not going to get you where you want to go.

If you hate your job, you need to quit. Quit doing it, or quit hating it. Either way, just stop it. There are no bonus points in life for being a martyr, and in the meantime you are just making yourself and the people who care about you miserable.

If your job is stupid, humiliating, silly, frustrating, and so on, I want you to think about the energy you are giving to the endeavor. Passion and focus are creative. So the job gets more ridiculous and even easier to hate; there’s potential for a really negative spiral here. Besides, I’d bet that one of the things that really bothers you about the situation is that it has the power to get under your skin. But you have a choice about that.

Let me put this a different way. If the job is really that bad, it doesn’t deserve the kind of energy you’re putting into it with your dread. No job is worth your hate. If you stop giving it so much power, you will start to find ways to either make it better or get out of there.

The world is a better place when the people in it are following their hearts. Not only do you deserve happiness, but you owe it to the rest of us to find your calling. What will it take for you to get moving?
